Thrift store finds, DIY cut off Levi's, tips for fraying, cutting andmore.

Thrifting Thursday

New weekly feature I am going to start doing, is thrifting Thursday.  Every week I'm going to try to remember to share with all of you my thrift store finds and then also share some of my DIY projects I do with my thrift finds.  I sell a lot of my finds that aren't my size or personal style on eBay.  Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think.

Today I went to Goodwill and the Salvation Army thrift stores. I have both only a couple minutes from my home and wanted to hunt for some vintage or older style Levi's to cut into shorts as well as some fun graphic tees. Here you can see I found 4 pairs of Levi's. 3 pairs are vintage and one pair are black label Levi's that are more current styles but still going to cut them off.

I have a hard time finding shorts in the length I like, I also love frayed cut off style shorts but they are always really short. Being a mother and almost 40 I don't want to wear daisy dukes but I do want to have some cute shorter shorts with a more modest look. I got all the above items for under $20. I went today because Thursday is their 30% off sale on denim at one store and then my mom gets 20% being a senior.

I have already cut 2 pairs and started to fray one pair. I am going to make a video and I will add it to the post later. All you need is a pair of scissors, a ruler and marker. I put the shorts on, mark the inseam and then I like to cut my shorts at an angle going shorter as it goes to the outer thigh. I will mark the inside then the height for the outside. If you aren't sure of the length you want or will need, keep in mind you are going to lose 1-2" fraying them depending on how much fray you like. I always consider this when marking them, then I take them off and use a ruler to line up the marks at an angle leaving me a perfect line so cutting is easy. Once you have cut both sides you simply pull some of the strings sticking out, and once you have done that you begin using the sharp side of the scissors, scraping the bottom of the jeans. Continue to scrap the bottom until you have a decent amount of fraying done. Everyone likes their own personal length, style, cut and amount of fraying. I love a lot of fraying and strings hanging down. Once you have achieved the desired look, or close to it, simply wash them in the washer on heavy duty. You want to wash them cause this helps fray some more and also you just got some used jeans that who knows when they were last washed or where they came from.

If after washing them you aren't happy with the fraying you can always continue to use your scissors to add more and you can also cut any uneven threads too. I also will sometimes cut the jeans then use my sewing machine to sew a quick seam across each leg to secure that my fraying doesn't go any shorter then a certain length. Some older denim is so broke in and soft that you will lose a lot of length washing and they will continue to become more and more frayed or get even shorter.

I will have more tips for fraying, cutting and distressing your old jeans or vintage finds coming later this weekend. I have many tools and tricks from the metal cheese grater to using a razor blade, or knife to create different types of holes, fraying and distressed areas on the denim.

You can also add patches, studs, lace, fabric and thread to your jeans to personalize them giving them your own unique touch, be you and have fun, showcase your own personal style whether it be boho chic, rocker edgy vibes, girly fashionista, bold, more reserved, etc.

Share your fave tips for distressing and fraying with me below, and tag me on IG to share some of your fave DIY creations. Peace love and light

πŸ’• Let's collaborate πŸ’•

πŸ’•Let's collaborate, searching for brands, boutiques, designers, bloggers, and creative inspiring people to work with on upcoming material and content. I'm shifting gears and putting all my focus into my blog and social media. I am looking for local photographers, makeup artist, hair stylist, designers and boutiques for styled shoots for my blog and social media. I'm also looking for designers, brands, and boutiques from all over to collaborate on features, and styled shoots for same.

I am working on blogger and social media influencer features also, I would like to feature one new blogger or social media influencer each week that has amazing and unique style. You don't have to have a bunch of followers or even have a blog of your own. If you have amazing style, are creative and take great photos I would love to work with you. If you are a fellow blogger I would love to have some blog takeovers where you can submit a post with links and photos using your own content.

If you have a brand or boutique and looking for some extra marketing, promotion and exposure, please contact me. We can host a giveaway or we can do a designer, boutique feature with photos of your favorite pieces and links to your shop, social media and more.

I'm currently working on brand new rate cards for fall 2017 but for the time being I am open to working with anyone and everyone for exchange of items, content, photos, promotional support and more.

I am always looking for awesome fashions, I love vintage styles, vintage inspired pieces, accessories and jewelry, graphic tees, bohemian styles, and anything unique. I also am moving into a rental for the next 10 months after selling our home we have lived in over 10 years. I am going to be doing an entire home decor, and design. The rental space is a newer build home, open floor plan, with 2 master suites, 2 bathrooms, formal and casual dining areas, large open living room, and brand new updated kitchen. I'm looking for home design and decor stores, furniture and accessories, bedding and bath, outside furniture, gardening and landscaping, you name it I am looking for it. I want to create a fun, colorful, bright, sunny, home for my girls and I as we transition from their home they have grown up in to a space we want to make as much like home as we can for the next 10-11 months while my oldest daughter completed High school. My husband recently took a job up north and is leaving in two weeks to start his new job, I decided to stay here with my 17 year old and 10 year old to allow my oldest to finish out her last year of high school with her friends at her school she has gone to since second grade.

I have a degree in interior and architectural   design.  I have worked for Home Depot in their Expo Design store, and regular store in their garden and kitchen/bath design areas. I had my own business for over 6 years staging homes, decorating offices and businesses for holidays, basic interior design for home and office/retail spaces, as well as event party planning decor. I have a creative mind and eye for putting together unique and eclectic pieces for amazing cutting edge designs. I'm looking to do something very bohemian chic. I love using lots of colors, patterns, solids, textures, and accessories. I'm not afraid to take chances and do a lot of diy as well. I have my current furniture I can use and lots of stuff I can repurpose but really looking for some new pieces to bring it all together.

Some stores I love are ZGallerie, Home Goods, Pottery Barn, Urban Outfitters, Crate and Barrel, Pier One, Kirklands, Anthropologie, World Market, Earthbound Trading Co and that's just to name some of the more well known shops that pop into my head. I also love to hit garage sales, thrift stores and online sites like Craigslist. I have lots of vintage furniture from the 1920-70's I have refinished, painted and repurposed. Anything I can make my own by creating something fun and unique I am game for.

Please contact me if you are interested via email, Dlitefulcreations@ymail.com and make sure to put Attn Collaboration so I don't miss it. I'm excited to meet and work with you, I am always happy to meet new people and to be able to work with new designers, fellow bloggers and creative types. Looking forward  to seeing the responses and hope everyone is having an amazing summer.

Peace love and light always

These towels are so multi purpose from being great for the pool, beach, picnics, concerts and festivals.  Then you can wear them as a wrap or sarong, scarf or sundress.  So many uses, and they dry super fast, unlike normal towels that can take hours to dry simply dry off and then hang your towel from umbrella or over the back of your chair dries in minutes.  Also doesn't hold sand like thicker beach towels, it shakes or brushes right off.  Every time I go to the beach people approach me to ask me where I got my towels.  I have been a brand ambassador for a few years and only towels I own for the beach, I carry a couple in my car and always have one in my tote for everyday use.

🌴Wilde Bella meets Rock n Roll Caravan πŸͺ

No I won't back down...

Happy almost Friday, today I'm excited to be able to finally post photos of an outfit I have had planned out in my head since I posted the previous post back a month ago featuring this lovely Wilde Bella skirt in Earth. It's from her Ohana collection and she inspired me to style this skirt with one of my Chaser Brand Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Rock n Roll caravan graphic tees.

Back a couple of years ago I received some amazing tees from Chaser brand and one of them was a grey/black cut out shoulder Tom Petty tee. I was so in love with the tee I ended up purchasing the men's version of the tee in white on clearance from Nordstrom. I have worn it prior with jeans but once I saw her flat lay I had shared on my IG (deleted after pre sale) and here on my blog back in May I was excited for this skirt to arrive to see how they went together. Of course they are a match made in rock n roll heaven. I have found many graphic tees that look amazing styled with this color way. My Spell and the Gypsy green distressed Panther tee is another amazing combo.  This tee is hard to find since it is an older tee but have seen a couple people have found some since Wilde Bella and my own repost of the tee. After having many people ask me back in May then when I posted earlier on my IG I did a search and have found a couple online, including Chaser brand having the men's version like I am wearing in limited sizes, then used, or one or two new on Amazon. Try searching Chaser Tom Petty tee, I will also try to find a couple to include links below for where to shop.  You can also ask Wilde Bella since she has a v-neck version of the tee and did mention possibly selling them on her site.

I styled this look with a lovely handmade braided leather and gemstone necklace, bracelets with crystal and beaded stones from Whiskey + Bone as well as 31ements jewelry. Shoes are from Target by Mossimo and are my favorite pair of brown flats for summer. Going to wrap up this post with some of my favorite Tom Petty lyrics. Peace love and light. Remember always be yourself and don't back down. Xoxo

 I won't back down, no I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down
Hey baby there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
No, I won't back down

Brow Micro Blading

Today my oldest daughter and I had our eye brows micro bladed. This was a procedure I had been long considering. Back probably over 10 years ago my friends had their eye brows tattooed on my one of my best friends long time friends that I had helped with her books when she opened her own tattoo shop had all had their brows or other permanent make up done. I remember picking my best friend Dawn up from the shop and as soon as I saw her she looked like she had some type of procedure done or a facial, some new makeup something was different and I loved it. She told me she had her brows tattooed on and I was shocked. My grandmother had this done many years prior to this in Hawaii and I always thought it looked so fake. She had white blonde hair like my friend Dawn and I'm also a natural blonde so our brows are so light you can barely see them.

After many year of almost getting it done, once I had the appointment and even showed up but left with my kids names or another tattoo I have collected over the years. Back about 3-4 years ago I was beginning to hear everyone talking about a more realistic looking 3D style procedure done called Micro Blading. I started looking into the costs, and also places to get it done. I was so leery because I have OCD and I am a bit of a perfectionist also I'm not a big makeup fan.  I have had the temporary lashes done and yes they look amazing but they just weren't for me.

I finally decided to give it a shot, I love how my face looks when I do pencil in my brows. I'm not the best at it and my brows always look different then finding a pencil or pomade style brow powder to apply has been hard also. I finally foundation good color and pencil by NYX but wanted to just wake up with my brows done. No work no fuss just natural looking and fuller. My friend just got her license and she is like me a perfectionist very detail oriented not to forget a super talented makeup artist. I trusted her 100% knowing how I am and also that I'm picky, to do this for myself and my daughter. She is just starting out and building her portfolio so I was able to get the procedure done for only $100. The cost is now going to go up to $350 and then will rise again soon. She has a nice location down off Collins and Miami Beach that was very professional, and she explained step by step everything she would be doing and was doing as she was applying each product.

It started out with booking my appointment and she sent me several forms to read over along with videos of the procedure and some before/after pics of the clients she had done so far. I made sure to ask questions and then my daughter decided she also wanted to have it done, so I did some extra online research as well. Once we arrived in her suite, she had us fill out all the paperwork and go over allergies or medications. Once we were explained all the pre procedure information, I had topical numbing cream applied and waited 20 minutes.

She had me lay down on a table much like when you go for a waxing, facial or massage. She then began to measure out the area, marking points of the brows. She drew in an outline of where she would be shading the brows. I got to check out the needle or blade used, which reminded me a lot of the tattoo shading needles used. It was a fine metal blade made up of several small needles. Once the brow shape and size was determined she then applied two ink or dye samples between my eyes to show me the two best colors she recommended for my lighter hair color to match my brows best. We went with an ash blonde and very light brown to deepen the tone slightly. She picked the blade she felt was the best size to make the strokes look closest to the thickness of my natural hairs in my brows.

She began with the first stroke and I was actually surprised it was not as painful as I had expected but the sound was a bit interesting. I had expected that as she went on it would hurt less but it was only certain areas I didn't feel as much where other areas I could feel it cutting almost but was more of an annoying sensation then a painful or uncomfortable one. After the first passing she applied lidocaine and allowed the to saturate the area before the next several passings. I think because the area is so delicate and becomes irritated easily it causes a little more discomfort in some areas where more strokes are applied or needed. Over all it isn't an intolerable pain.  I have over a dozen tattoos several being very large, one is from the base of my spine lower mid back, all the way up to my shoulder blades and since have gotten my kids names across my upper back then have an older tattoo on the back of my neck. It wasn't at all is uncomfortable as getting a tattoo can be and went by rather fast. I would say from numbing to being done it takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on your artist. I have seen where some do 2-3 hours but then the client look very irritated I was happy to hear I will have a touch up session in 4-8 weeks that will be when she finishes filling them in and any touch ups I need after healing.

I'm impressed totally with both my daughters brows and mine. I have been told they get darker and go through a few days of heeling that some say is worse then others. I have heard for a week some ladies have peeling and scabbing but we all heal differently as well as how you take care of them afterwards. I have had many tattoos and some have heeled without even as much as a scab or peeling you have to keep the area moist and clean. I am including a few before, after, during and going to try to upload a video clip maybe it will be on my social media if I'm unable to post it here. I would love to hear from others about their experiences and see photos. I highly recommend this for ladies like myself who don't have time or the talent to apply makeup but want to have a more defined brow area to open up your eyes and add some extra something to your face. I'm excited to see them healed and after the touch up because right now they look amazing and my daughter's are so realistic and natural looking. I love how they both turned out   and so happy we were able to get this done for a great price.

Thank you for passing by and hope you're all having a wonderful week. Peace love and light always xoxo

πŸŒ™Sunday Wild Moon Child✨

Stay wild Moon child graphic singlet by Spell and the Gypsy collective. Etienne mini skirt in Sienna and not seen is the Sienna bralette. Prefect for pairing under the singlet to have the same print as the skirt pop through. Spell has done it again with their Lotus collection. I know I say it every post and every collection but I mean it, Spell makes me feel so amazing when I wear it and even my girls agree. These mini skirts are my new faves.

I accessorized with one of my favorite vintage necklaces, hand made with coins and vintage tribal pendant. Love the vintage necklaces and jewelry have added a bunch of new styles to my collection this year. Found an amazing seller online that starts the pricing super low. I paid around $28 for this one but have a few I got as low as $5 plus shipping. Have more styles coming, including a couple of rings an anklet and a couple vintage bracelets.

My cuff bracelet is hand made by Rabbit and the Raven. You can follow her on Instagram @rabbitandtheraven for all her amazing jewelry and she also makes some amazing jackets with embellishments and embroidered details, handbags with vintage pendants like my necklaces, and coin details. She is so talented and inspiring love to be able to share these amazing ladies I have met on social media who are so creative. This cuff is black with cream accents and gold feathers. Perfect for mixing and matching with so many styles. My other arm is a stack of Ettika beaded and charm bracelets.

Wearing my recent favorite brown sandals I got on sale at Target that are easy to wear and so comfy. Love flats but really love how the legs looking when you are wearing a mini skirt with a pair of heels. Waiting for my new slip on, open toe platform clogs to arrive.

Happy Father's Day to all those amazing dads out there. My daughters and I are so blessed to have such an amazing man in our lives who works so hard and always is there for us. Going to be hard to be separated from him for the next 10 months but we will have lots of long weekends and holidays together. Also want to remember my father who passed away when I was only 23, I miss him so much. When he passed away everyone told me time would make it easier but honestly have to say I miss him more and more each day that goes by. So many huge milestones in my life and my girls lives that I wish he could be here to celebrate with us, but I know he is looking down with pride of all the hard work we have all done along with our many accomplishments. Love you daddy and will always be your little girl.

Have a wonderful week ahead and keep an eye out for a lot of fun fashion finds this week, along with a guest post feature with one of my favorite social media fashionistas. Be sure to head over to my IG page to enter the Ettika $100 giveaway.    You don't want to miss this awesome contest, perfect chance to add some amazing boho chic jewelry to your collection for summer. Spell Lotus pt 2 Unboxing... Graphic tops, Bralette and Minis

Spell and the Gypsy
Lotus Collection
Etienne Monaco and Sienna

Spell and the Gypsy Collective is one of my all time favorite designers and collections out there.  Their style and designs are so perfect for describing a good part of my own personal style, just throw in some distressed Silver Jeans and some more rock n roll vibe looks then that would nail it.  Graphic tees and tanks with vintage vibes then total bohemian, 1970 inspired flowy skirts are what I live in.  Spell has the patent on amazing skirts and dresses that transport me back to the 1970's.  I am instantly dancing and prancing around barefoot, listening to my old vinyl collection and putting flowers in my hair.

I couldn't wait for the release of the Etienne print in Sienna, Monaco and noir.  I waited patiently to order the mini in Monaco hoping my size didn't sell out so I could order the sienna with it.  From drop one I got the bra, bloomers in both Sienna and Monaco, then the sleeveless maxi in Monaco, and a Noir bodysuit.

You can shop these along with the rest of the Spell and the Gypsy Lotus Collection using any of the links here in this post or located in my side bar or banners.  These graphic tops are so cute and look perfect with the mini skirts along with many other older Spell styles I own.

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend, and always Stay wild moon child.  Peace, love and light always oxox Melissa

Forever Free, Lost in Arizona...

Rocking my vintage Spell and the Gypsy, Forever Free graphic tank with roll up sleeves to convert from a short sleeve tee to tank.  I paired it with one of my favorite newer designers, House of Skye.  This is one of 3 skirts I own from her, called the Jipsee Flamenco and from the Lost in Arizona collection.  One of my faves with feathers, cattle skulls and cactus in the print.  My brown flat leather sandals are Mossimo and from Target.

Friday casual was more of a fancy free style for me, spent the day showing our home to multiple people and ended it with multiple offers.  We have now accepted an offer and have a back up offer on the table.  Even more exciting I have the house lined up to move into July 14 for my girls and I.  Going back to my roots where I spent my preteen to teen years in the west area from where we live now called Sunshine Ranches.  I am so happy we will be moving into a home instead of a townhouses or apartment because I won't have to get a storage unit to store what we aren't using.  Now I can fit most of our stuff and we plan to sell a lot of things to buy new stuff when we move north next May.  I'm sure I will buy stuff for the new house, going with a very boho chic, south western and traveled eclectic look.  I can't wait to share my decorating adventures to showcase my talent and love for interior design.

Of course right before I am going to be moving I found a new photo corner for taking pics, my neighbor has this cute little wall on the side of her house and love the mid day lighting here, was a little bright yesterday because it was a little later then I wanted it to be when we took the photos.  Florida weather is so unpredictable literally rained right after this.

I love the high low design of these swish or castaway style skirts.  They are ideal for summer and the fabric is so light weight.  I also really love the colors which work nicely for summer but really can't wait for fall to style with the reds, burnt oranges and rust tones.

This graphic tee is one of my favorites and always love vintage spell anything.  I will grab the pieces up I can when I find them if they aren't priced too high.  I'm really excited to be getting my eye brows done this coming Tuesday.  Been wanting to tattoo my eyebrows for over a decade when a good friend of ours started her own tattoo shop and did everyone's eyebrows.  Literally appeared as if they had a face lift or some sort of procedure done because their face looked so young and their eyes so wide.  About 4 years ago the same girl who is going to do my eyebrows and my daughter both showed me the newest technique, micro blading and I loved the more realistic natural look versus the solid tattoo style of the older techniques used.  I have blonde hair naturally and my brows are so hard to see then I am not the best with makeup, my daughter is so talented but she is an artist who draws or paints a lot of faces and realistic style art work, where my artistic side is more nature sketching or painting,  photography, architectural design, marketing design, cakes and baking, partying planning and of course interior design.

Cheers to the weekend and we just got home from celebrating the offer on our house, finding the perfect spot to move and things just falling into place.  Good things happen to good people and when things are meant to be everything always has a way of just working out or coming together perfectly.

Peace love and light always, xoxo
