OPI Liquid Sand, Mariah Carey polish

I have been looking at new polishes that have been released and are being released for the new year. I can't wait to see the spring and summer colors, I love fall and winter but ready for some pastels and bright summer shades too;). I have been looking at swatches and the ones that have been catching my eye are the new OPI liquid sand shades by Mariah Carey.

I have tried the velvet and textured polishes but found I liked to do them myself plus saved a lot of money. I have seen a lot of people are using the embossing powder to make the look of these sand finish nails but I will have to buy one or two of these new OPI shades to sample. I love the texture with the glitter over a matte polish:). Looks amazing.

I have some photos I got from the OPI Facebook page that show some swatches along with a photo of the new display. I have seen a lot of people swatch these colors I plan to hit Ulta tomorrow to see if they have them in my area. On the website it says coming January 2013 but a friend told me she got her polish yesterday at Ulta:). Till then enjoy the opi photos from Facebook and I will have some samples soon.

Happy New Year,

Melissa

Sorry been MIA

I have been struggling with horrible migraines for the passed month. Think I have gotten things back under control thanks to my doctor and neurologist but still have some tests I am waiting on. The holidays have been amazing:). Had a great time and have been back to baking, event/party planning and did a few holiday decor jobs. I love to get back to what I love. Went to the art institute in Miami for their open house last week and am back to considering design school and event planning. I have taken courses but need to complete my degree.

I am also excited to say my holiday wreath sales went good. Etsy isn't as good as I hoped and store envy wasn't any good at all. I found that Craigslist, and local craft shows were where it was at. In my area the city has four different holiday craft events and by my house the city has a retirement and adult living community they host craft shows along with antique sales every other weekend, I sold a lot and got a lot of custom orders too;). I expanded to floral centerpieces, arrangements, holiday ornaments, and more. Then when I was baking for thanksgiving decided to make samples which helped me a lot with Christmas orders;).

I also am excited to say I got some great new polished during the past month and some other great items to sample for everyone. I had one of the prizes for my contest in fall come back the week before Christmas and am sending that out this Thursday. I am going to get settled then extend the Joby nail art contest another couple of weeks. Had three prizes and only two people entered. Please help me spread the word and by the end of this week will have the contest extended:). Sorry for the inconvenience I usually am on top of my blog and site just with the migraines then my kids holiday events had no free time till today to even update.

Excited for all that is to come in 2013! I will have contest and giveaways along with great reviews and samples of items, new baking and craft photos and ideas plus a lot more. Please stay tuned and thank you to everyone for your support. Below are some photos of polish and other things from the past months or so:). Enjoy.

Happy new year xoxo

Zoya Blaze, my favorite red for holidays

I haven't posted all week and have wanted to but had a cold Sunday and then Tuesday got a migraine had to go to dr for a shot then yesterday was faint headache all day and today woke up with migraine, nausea and dizziness. Was so upset cause I had an appointment to get my hair done and makeup then family photos had to cancel everything to go to doctor around one after six to seven hours feeling like death:(. Was hard to cancel but can reschedule for next week needed to put my health first.

Last night I painted my toe nails and finger nails for the pictures, was waiting for family photos to use the Zoya Blaze. This is my favorite from the Zoya ornate collection, I also love aurora and storm. This is a gorgeous bright but deep tone red with lots of sparkle. Glitter is silver, iridescent and purple looking when you move in light. I did a base coat on nails with Butter London nail foundation. Next I followed with two costs of Zoya Blaze and finished with Out The Door top coat. Toe nails did same thing:).

Love this red color for the holidays. Also out of all my Zoya polishes this collection seems to last a lot longer. Usually Zoya polish chips quick no matter what base or top coat I use but I painted the aurora purple from the Ornate collection and it lasted almost two weeks:). I recommend this color and line to everyone. If you are looking for a pretty red for the holidays try Zoya Blaze from their Ornate Collection it is gorgeous:).

Bearded Dragon

We have a smooth scaleless bearded dragon I got for my daughter's last Christmas. He is like another member of our family, my then 4 year old named him Buddy before we even bought him when we went to the local pet store and she would see him or hold him. We had two but they didn't get along after awhile. His name was Spike and he was a red leather back bearded dragon, he now lives with my best friend we had to give him to them so they wouldn't fit.

I put a little tree in his cage then have a little stocking for him. I made this photo on insta collage. Too cute wanted to share

I'm spoiled, my new Leslie Danzis Clover hoops

I have wanted these earrings for a year almost. I showed them to hubby and he couldn't find them. It worked out cause when he did find them the white gold were on sale 50%off:). They are Leslie Danzis medium clover leaf earrings. Gorgeous. All her jewelry is beautiful.

Thank you hubby looks like between my new Michael Kors purse and now the earrings I am in heaven. I also ordered my 13 year old a Juicy Couture bow ring a necklace going to get the bracelet too. She had a set from forever 21 and wet seal on her wish list but it was mad cheap and was fake so it would turn if she got it wet. The juicy website had 35% off Monday and free shipping plus had a gift card. I ordered myself a bow ring and a daydreamer bright blue animal print bag to match my blue track suit.

Since I refuse to pay full price I am in heaven cyber Monday week lol. I don't know if I will have any gifts on Christmas day. Lol. Posting photos of my earrings then the necklace and rings I got. Hope she doesn't read my blog lol.

Going to bed 2 am here and been decorating just added some topiaries out front and hot glued two wreaths for out front and one for kitchen to hang tomorrow. Getting it done! Lol I even wrapped gifts earlier but have in closet. Got some cute bows, ornaments and decor to decorate the gifts with love love Christmas:)

Happy holidays everyone,

Melissa

Julep December Box

I got my Julep Maven December box. Got the It Girl box and love the design your own ring that came with it. Super creative idea. Have to give it to Julep they always have a way of impressing me around a holiday. Loved my October box.

I also had over 2000 maven points so cashed them in for a five polish gift box but that has not arrived yet. I'm going to post photos as soon as it comes though:). I picked the It girl again this month I have every month. It is the first one I got when I took my quiz and every month those colors end up being my favorite:). I got Harper which says American Beauty on it and is a green jelly looking polish with glitter. I haven't sampled any yet but will tonight I'm sure.

I also got Vivien which also says American Beauty and is a gold polish with small sparkle then large holo glitter. Last of all Ivy which says It Girl and is a blue polish that has a holographic look and purple sheen when moved around in light. From looking at bottles Ivy looks like my favorite of the three:).

I'm glad I didn't cancel my subscription cause I had a bad experience with my trick or treat mystery box but they sent me a replacement box and gave me some credits. I am looking forward to my gift box with five new polishes I don't have and I got a professional style polish remover bottle using my credits.

Excited cause Birchbox should be coming soon too and the Ipsy box too. Love boxes. I also got my ornaments today, since 1995 when I met my hubby I have ordered or purchased personalized ornaments. Started I got them at craft shows from people who made them from wood and would write your names and year on them. The guy and his wife weren't there after 2000 so I went to the mall and got one from the kiosk in mall, was made so cheap and fell apart was sad so looked again ended up finding a great site online! I have ordered from them every year since 2002 I get a family ornament then each kid one. Cat is even on some and now our bearded dragon too lol. Love personalized ornaments. Our tree in living room is all family ornaments either personalized, ones kids made, or photo ornaments of our family, then I have a tree in family room that has all the pretty glass ornaments. All made in Poland where my family is from:). I actually bought the tree and most of the ornaments at Dillard's past two years after Christmas on clearance. I'm Christmas crazy we have two 7.5 foot trees a 4.5ft tree, 3.5 ft tree and a 3 ft tree in house plus two topiary trees shaped like Christmas trees in front porch and a lawn light up holographic tree out front in my garden lol. If I could I would paint my yard white for Christmas if it wouldn't kill the grass lol. I know I'm crazy, been decorating since thanksgiving and still have more to do. Hoping to be done tomorrow or Monday. I usually finish earlier but with both kids in school, my husband's work schedule always changing and he works ALOT! Plus I go to the gym Monday-Friday now for alteast an hour a day. I almost went today cause yesterday I did a two hour boot camp class which was amazing. Made crossfit look like a cake walk. I also am registering for the color run. Trying to decide if I should do the original one in Miami in Feb or there is another one I think called color splash 5k in Ft Lauderdale. Trying to get a team together of four people. I can't wait looks so fun. Haven't done a 5k in 3 years. Before I had my youngest daughter I did the walk for leukemia every year cause we lost my dad to leukemia 10 years ago:(. There is one that a friend I met did where you get enough sponsors you can do a hike in the grand canyon. That's my dream.

Okay I rambled on lol, sorry was writing about the julep December box. I love it and the colors look gorgeous. I will paint my nails tonight then post some photos for sure. Also have a post I wrote need to edit then will post on washing your workout clothes. I was talking to my primary doctor and she told me a lot of people don't realize how bad your work out gear can be if you don't wash and handle properly so I figured I would write up a post to share what she told me:). It is very interesting so stay tuned if you are into fitness and workout daily or even if you workout a couple days a week cause a lot of people will go to gym come home then throw clothes in hamper not a good idea you should alteast rinse them in hot water then hang to dry in laundry room till you do laundry, don't infect all your other clothes with the germs from your gym clothes. More to come on that along with tips for cleaning boxing wraps, keeping your gloves smelling clean and fresh then disinfecting equipment. I am a neat freak and a little OCD lol so I am always cleaning stuff. Specially after my doctor told me about staff infection and other things people get at the gym.

Please share your julep box details with me if you subscribe and I love to follow other blogs about fashion, trends, makeup, beauty, home decor and crafts also coupons, deals and savings:). Please share your blog with me and if it is something I enjoy reading I will follow you for sure. I like to support fellow bloggers cause it isn't easy to build up a following I know. Thank you again to everyone who reads and follows my blog. Don't forget to enter the contest click link above, Joby nail art contest. Enjoy your weekend,

Melissa

Tips for washing and keeping workout clothes, or gear fresh and germ free

I have been going to the gym 4-5 days a week for the past six weeks.  I have started to come up with my own routine for keeping my items fresh.  I noticed right away that my wraps for hands and boxing gloves get super sweaty and dirty.  When we are not wearing our gloves the wraps are on the floor for push ups, burpees and more, plus if you use the restroom, touch weights, medicine ball, mats etc.  I have my own mat I got from my yoga days but some days I forget it or if I keep it in my car I may ride with my friend or take hubby's truck and leave it behind, then have to use one of the gym's mats.  I always have a towel cause I sweat a lot so I use the towel to lay on top of the mat when that happens.  I also carry Lysol anti-bacterial wipes and small purse/travel size bottle of the Lysol spray so I can spray down things too.

I now own two sets of wraps for my hands, cause after the first week I was so grossed out with the smell and thoughts of what they touched that I could not see washing them daily.  At first I just would come home and hang them to dry after spraying with Febreze antibacterial fabric freshening spray.  Then I started filling the sink before I showered with very hot water and letting them soak while I showered, then ringing them out hanging to dry and spraying with Febreze, lol.  I know it sounds crazy but I have a germ a phobia and am a neat freak, a bit ocd so I am always cleaning or spraying stuff down with Lysol.  I have sprays, wipes and even industrial strength spray my husband gets from his job at the power company lol.

The boxing gloves are a entire other story lol.  They get nasty and then think about it your hands are sweating in there, then we do the same push ups, mountain climbers, burpee, crawling etc so the outsides are always on the floor.  I always notice at the gym when we are boxing how some people are pouring sweat so they will actually have sweat dripping off them onto the floor, I don't imagine they clean the floor all day after every class.  We tend to only stay in one spot for when we are boxing or kickboxing for a portion of the class, the rest of the class we are all over the room doing different exercises and drills.  I always wipe my bag with the lysol wipes, then clean the outside of my gloves with the wipes or when I get home I spray the outside and inside down, then leave them out of my gym bag somewhere they can air out.  I also have made a little air freshner for them that I place inside.  I used the Downy Unstopables that I love to use to wash my linens and workout clothes with, I placed them inside a little mesh bag that has a pull tie string and then just put them inside after I spray them down.  This keeps them smelling good and makes them feel cleaner, just smelling good helps keep your mind off the germs lol.

Below are some photos of my favorite products to use.  I love Lysol everything, and Febreze has a line of anti bacterial sprays for fabric that I find to be very good.  Both run between $5-7 depending on size and brand.  I also found the Method brand in a Lemon scent that I like a lot at Target and it's a little less expensive at $3-4 for a bottle.  I love lemon scent cause it just has that clean fresh smell.  Sometimes I need a break from floral, or perfume scents and the linen smells.  I have a sensitivity to scents and get headaches often along with skin irritation so I have to be careful what items I use.  Some of the Lysol sprays actually give me hives if they come in contact with my skin so can't spray on fabrics.  I also have to be careful what I use to wash my clothes cause Gain breaks me out in hives bad, have had to be hospitalized from having such a horrible reaction.  I use good old Tide and I have recently gotten into the little pods you throw in the wash that have everything in them.  I like them cause I don't feel like I am wasting product plus they keep my clothes fresh, clean, smelling good and white/bright.

I also have done a lot of research after talking to my primary doctor about caring for gym clothes.  She told me a lot of people that work out every other day and only do laundry once a week make the mistake of coming home from the gym then throwing their workout clothes in the hamper with their other laundry only to cause a bacteria breeding ground.  I was instantly grossed out so I asked her what should you do when you get home, I certainly am not going to waste water, time and laundry stuff to wash one outfit every day or every other day.  She told me you should always rinse your clothes with hot water, as hot as the fabric or care instructions say is okay.  Then hang them to dry and have a seperate hamper or laundry bag for the gym clothes.  I have started doing this every day when I get home since I soak and rinse my wraps.  I have a little ritual down for before and after the gym now.

I also wash my work clothes separate load from the rest of my clothes on hot wash cold rinse unless item indicates otherwise.  I usually am a cold water only girl.  I think cold water works great, have less damage or fading to items, only time I use warm or hot water is for stain removal then for towels and bedding or rugs, stuff like that.  Below are some tips I put together from surfing the web that I found helpful along with a few of my own.

Also I highly recommend Nike Dri-fit work out clothes.  I wear other brands Nike is not the only brand I buy, I have other brands I have picked up that I thought the outfit was cute but I always wear capris, sports bra and usually a tank top or tight fighting cotton or dri-fit tee.  On cooler nights I have a nike zip up dry fit jacket that I wear, this is also good cause the gym I go to is on the upstairs level of an ice skating rink so it is always freezing when I first get there then when it is time to leave and I am soaked from sweating.  I always bring a change of shirt with me and do a quick swap in the restroom before heading out.  I have a few photos from Nike.com of some of my favorites, only a couple cause if I posted all my fav's this would be a long post lol.

Nike sports bra.  I also have Champion sports bras that are reversible, I like this cause then it's like getting two for one.  I like all my stuff to match.  I know it's the gym not a fashion show.  Trust me I don't look pretty, no makeup (cause I don't really wear makeup except special occasions), hair is a mess and in a pony tail, but I like my clothes to match.  Lol.

Nike dri-fit v-neck tee, I have a lot of these.  I got different colors and a couple with sayings on them.  I love these for either after the work out or on cooler nights here in South Florida when I don't want to wear a tank top.  Otherwise I usually always wear a tank top.

I have like eight pairs of Nike capri length bottoms, mostly black, then have a gray and pink pair.  These are by far my favorite.  They are cozy and don't leave embarrassing sweat marks that look like I peed my pants, no matter how bad I sweat.  I have a couple with the cute little cinch string on the sides too.  I also have other brands of capri's that have matching tops etc, but the Nike fit great and like I said don't show all the sweat, water marks like some regular cotton ones do.

I love these Nike cotton v-neck tees too, other then the dri-fit I also love cotton, not a fan of spandex.  I hate spandex capris or leggings for working out, I don't know if people realize it but a lot of women I have seen at the gym over the years wear these and you can see thru them.  I have seen ladies in them with no undies and you can see, well you know I don't think I have to explain.  Where I work out at now wouldn't want to be crawling on my hands and feet with butt in the air with see thru pants lol.

I have a lot of this style tank top in racer back and regular.  Love them.

This is the same as above just the Dri-fit material which is just more shiny looking and does not show sweat and water marks like the basic cotton style does.  With a tank top I don't mind so much though

Washing tips:

What’s the best way to deodorize gym gear?
With a bit of preventive care
and the right detergent, you can cure the stench?and even keep it from festering in the first place. After a workout, give clothes a quick rinse in a sink; wring them out to remove as much water as possible, and stow them in a large plastic bag before putting them in your gym tote. Since the confined compartment of a tote can breed smelly bacteria, take the dirty clothes out as soon as you get home and wash them

according to the label directions.  Unless you wear your gym clothes home then do same thing at home, rinse them in hot water then ring them out and hang to air dry.  Then you can keep them in a laundry bag once dry, separate from other laundry to time to wash. President and founder of Clothingdoctor.com, recommends using the hottest water temperature that your gear can handle, along with an enzyme-formulated detergent, such as 2X UltraTide ($14, target.com for stores). “The active ingredients will effectively break down protein-based stains, like perspiration,” says Boorstein. If you still detect an odor, then the problem could be the clothing itself. Try wearing more-natural fabrics, such as cotton blends, whose fibers release odors more easily than synthetics do.

Hope these tips are useful for you.  I know they all helped me and are now part of my daily after gym routine.  If you have any other advice, suggestions or rituals you do please share them.  I also love to hear about products you use, work out clothes that you have found to be comfortable, affordable and like etc.
